How to Use BIM Viewer

How to Use BIM Viewer

The BIM Viewer lets you process, view, and navigate CAD/DWG files directly from the Document Register — follow the steps below to process a file, open it in the viewer, and use the toolbar tools to inspect, measure, and share your model.

NotesFile types supported: Revit (.rvt), IFC (.ifc), Navisworks (.nwd), or AutoCAD (.dwg) files

Navigate to the main menu and click Document Register under Document Control.

Filter to CAD/DWG under Document type.

Orange icon means the BIM has already been processed and is ready to view.

How to Process BIM Viewer

Black icon means the BIM has not been processed to view.
Click the icon and a processing prompt will appear.

Click Got it to close the prompt, as you will receive an email notification that it will be ready to view.

Once you receive the notification, click View in Document Register.

The BIM viewer will open, displaying the file.

BIM Toolbar Options

1. Orbit - 360 view from any angle
2. Pan - Slides the view left, right, up, or down without changing the zoom level or angle, letting you reposition the model on screen.
3. Zoom - Moves the camera closer to or further from the model to inspect details or see the bigger picture.
4. First Person - Switches to a walkthrough mode that lets you move through the model as if walking inside it, using directional controls.
5. Camera Interactions - A set of controls (orbit, pan, zoom, first person) grouped together for adjusting how you view and navigate the model in 3D space.
6. Measure - Lets you click two or more points on the model to get exact distances, angles, or areas for verification purposes.
7. Section Analysis - Cuts a cross-section through the model along a chosen plane, so you can see internal components and layers that would otherwise be hidden.
8. Explode Model - Separates the model's components outward from their assembled position, making it easier to see individual parts and how they fit together.
9. Model Browser - Displays a hierarchical tree of all objects, layers, and components in the model, allowing you to show, hide, or isolate specific elements.
10. Properties - Shows detailed metadata (e.g., material, dimensions, ID, classification) for a selected object or component within the model.
11. Settings - Opens viewer preferences, such as display quality, units, navigation mode, and environment/background options.
12. Full Screen - Expands the viewer to fill the entire browser window, removing surrounding UI for an unobstructed view of the model.
